Why Mass Timber Envelopes?

The popularity for mass timber or, perhaps more accurately, solid laminate timber systems, has grown substantially in current times and can be attributed to a combination of factors including the climate emergency, net zero carbon targets, sustainability benefits, moves to create a circular economy in the construction industry, etc. but also more prosaic matters such as speed of construction, lighter weight structures, fewer site deliveries than with concrete, less on-site waste moving towards compete modularisation of panels.

The year-on-year growth in mass timber's market has presented an expanding opportunity for other sectors such as façade system manufacturers while bringing new challenges requiring some rethinking of existing products and their applications. With the emergence of solid laminate timber systems allowing shaping and curving to create extraordinary building forms that are beyond the typical orthogonal form, timber is now widely being explored in the building envelope. Engineered timber products are now be seen to have largely replicated conventional concrete and steel construction and, in some cases, the external curtain wall too.

With the timing being right to explore the challenges and opportunities for the use of mass timber in the building envelope, Zak Exhibitions & Conferences are delighted to launch a new dedicated conference series titled “Zak Engineered Timber Envelopes”, to bring together the ACE industry representatives in a bid to put together the forces behind a comprehensive motive of creating more sustainable infrastructure and clearing misconceptions on the use of timber in the external envelope.

About the Event

Zak Engineered Timber Envelopes is planned as a one-day conference where latest innovations and challenges in the mass timber industry pertaining to the building envelope will be discussed and debated and will also host an exclusive exhibit area featuring leading solution providers.

This event is an offshoot from the stable of the Zak World of Façades conference series which is the world’s largest conference series on façade design & engineering with a presence in 30+ countries.

Who Should Attend

The event is ideal for Architects, Developers/Investors, Consultants & Engineers (Structural, Fire, Timber, Façade, Sustainability), Contractors (General, Timber, Façade, Roof), Building Insurers, Cost Consultants, Building Regulators, QS, PMC’s & related building specifiers.

Insightful Dialogues & Networking

Hear from experts in the domain of mass timber design, engineering, procurement and execution on their views on constructing timber envelopes, mass timber buildings and more with the latest techniques and tools available. Also, network with other industry peers and leading manufacturers & solution providers to the mass timber industry.
